This diagram illustrates how a geothermal power plant generates electricity by taking advantage of the geothermal zone.
 
As can be seen from the image, at the first step, cold water is being pumped down to the injection well through a pipe which is 4.5 km long. After that, it will go through the geothermal zone which is made of hot rocks before reaching the production well. The next step sees the hot water pumped up to a condenser which generates the steam used to power the turbine. Then, the turbine will start to work and be able to power the generator that produces electricity. At the final step, the electricity will be conveyed to a power station and ready for use.
 
Overall, cold water can be heated by hot rocks and, through a very simple and environmentally friendly process, helps produce electricity.
