加拿大政府确认一名前外交官被中国拘留，很多人认为这是中国对于加拿大拘捕中国公司高管的报复行为。对此，你有何评价？

帕拉迪诺当即表示，美国敦促中国结束无理拘禁，尊重个体受到的保护和自由。

The United States is concerned by these reports that a Canadian citizen has been detained in China. We urge China to end all forms of arbitrary detention and to respect the protections and freedoms of all individuals under China’s international human rights and consular commitments.

美方对于新闻中所报道的一名加拿大公民被中国拘留的消息表示关切。我们敦促中国结束一切形式的任意拘留，尊重中国国际人权和领事承诺框架下一切个体受到的保护和自由。

马修·李反问道，那你会敦促加拿大也这么做吗？你是不是支持加拿大逮捕行为？

And would you urge the Canadian government to do the same thing or is this – or is the arrest there, the detention there something that you support?

那你会敦促加拿大政府做同样的事么？换句话说，你是不是支持加拿大（对中国公民）的拘捕行为？

发言人被问懵了……结结巴巴地表示，呃，没听懂啥意思……要不你再问一遍？

I’m not – I don’t understand the question, Matt. Please repeat the – what’s the question?

我不是……Matt，我没懂你啥意思……请重复下……问题是啥来着？

马修耐心解释了一遍自己的问题，简单总结起来就是——“发言人，你是不是双标？”

You seem to be saying that the Chinese have acted incorrectly here in detaining this former Canadian diplomat. 

你似乎是说中国拘留前加拿大外交官是错误行为。

And by saying that, without any reference to what happened in Canada to the Chinese executive, you seem to be suggesting that that’s – you’re okay with that, but not with the Chinese detaining.

说到这些的时候，你根本不提加拿大是如何对待那位中国公司高管的。你好像是在暗示——你觉得加拿大这么做就行，但中国这么做就不行。

被戳穿双标后，帕拉迪诺试图强行解释为啥要抓孟晚舟，比如所谓的华为违反禁令和伊朗做生意……

马修表示，OK，好的，我了解。但你就说说，为啥中国就不能因为正当理由抓前加拿大外交官？

You don’t think that the Chinese had any reason, valid reason, to detain this former Canadian diplomat?

你不认为中国有理由、正当理由去拘留前加拿大外交官？

发言人被连续提问“打脸”后，只好匆匆搪塞过去。

We – I mean, I would refer you to the Canadian and Chinese governments for the reasons behind the arrest and restate what I said already. Thanks.
